This week we discuss getting backlinks on news websites and using free downloads to increase subscriber sign ups. Then we’ll take a look at a few articles you affiliate marketers may find useful.
Getting News Backlinks for a Search Engine Push
Writing a comment on a news website like CNN can be tremendously useful, though not easy to do.
Firstly, search Google News for a topic that you’ve already covered on your website. Browse the list of news articles for editorials where, possibly, you may have the opportunity to leave a blog comment.
- Truthful and meaningful or don’t leave the comment at all.
- Write to inform.
- Read out loud and edit your comment before publishing.
- Refer to your Brand Name (capitalize) so that people can search for it. Shrewdly use an article link or suggest the topic of the article on your own site without directly stating you own the site.
- If the comment is genuinely useful, in-depth or actually illuminating, it will probably be OK and the blog owner won’t delete it.
- You’ll really cinch the deal on your news comment if you’ve read all the comments, know the background facts, and the article itself!
If you stay on the look out for news related to your site’s main topics/products, you might have a chance at a really great backlink. Remember, quality of backlinks means much more for SERPS than quantity. Landing a nice link on a NYTimes editorial article might get your site the needed push in rankings after a few weeks or months.
Also, please remember not to overdo comment backlinking. Do just one or two at a time and take some time off from backlinking. Growing links slowly will have a better impact on the longevity of your site because it will not trigger search penalties for unnatural link growth.
Creating Free Downloads
Creating a free download might seem like a challenge, but it can be simpler than you think. Browse through your previously published posts for articles for ideas. Try combining 3-5 of your best posts into a single cohesive topic. There’s no rule against using your own content again, whilst spicing it up with new research and connecting paragraphs.
We encourage you to explore ideas about creating a free report or download when you already have about 30 published articles. A free report or download will be very helpful in getting newsletter subscribers and a long-term relationship with your customers.
Are you looking for some good stuff to read to help you curate new content and generate more commissions? Check out these two articles.
In Rohit Bhargava’s article, “The 5 Models of Content Curation“, you’ll become acquainted with different ways of writing a little bit about other people’s works. Curation is a kind of synthesis, allowing bloggers to share the work of others whilst applying their lens (perspective).
One of the models of curation is distillation. Rohit writes, “Distillation is the act of curating information into a more simplistic format where only the most important or relevant ideas are shared.” Actually, this very article is an example of distillation.
The second article is found here on Reddit:
“Hello everyone, I’ve been lurking this subreddit for a few months now and I’ve been trying to learn as much as I can about SEO. I’m basically looking for a way to make some extra money in my free time and pick up extra skills. I’ve launched one basic affiliate site thus far, there was a lot I didn’t know but I decided it was important to push through and finish it for the experience. As expected, that website doesn’t seem to be doing much of anything… perhaps it needs more time or some adjustments.
Anyhow, I wanted to ask about using the amazon affiliate program for niche markets. I currently use google trends and analytics, ubersuggest, and amazon’s ‘bestsellers’ page. What are some tools you can recommend to identify profitable niche markets, or general techniques to use these tools properly? I’ve done a lot of reading on the subject, but now I’m struggling a bit to put everything into practice.
Niche marketing with Amazon affiliate appeals to me because it seems once you’ve taken the time to research and identify what products to sell, the websites are fairly simple to create and maintain (which is great for someone like me that doesn’t have a lot of time to devote). Am I correct for assuming this?
Thanks for any input 🙂
TL;DR: What tools and techniques are most effective for amazon affiliate marketing? Generally what does your process look like for identifying a new product to market?”
