An exact match domain (abbreviated EMD) is a website domain that contains a keyword or phrase used in searches on search engines like Google. Examples of an exact match domain name are:
- CheapFrenchBooks.com and the keyword the domain owner wants to rank for is “Cheap french books” – it is exactly matching the search term!
Some of these websites can be very successful. In the recent past, online entrepreneurs were buying many domain names like the above in order to gain a special advantage in search engine ranking. But Google’s search algorithm has been adjusted, so we may be seeing more websites that are brand names and not exact search terms.
