Are you interested in getting your own website domain? This simple tutorial will show you how to register with one of our favorite hosting companies.
Their domains are usually low cost and their coupon deals can be unbeatable in the industry. If you’re patient and keep on the look out for coupons, you can get a nice domain name for under $4 with Namecheap.
This tutorial will also show you how to install WordPress (self-hosted), which is by far less expensive than WordPress.com – for the price of one year of their hosting/domain renewal, you could run several of your own websites, and still have add on domains left over with Namecheap!!
STEP #1 – Go to NameCheap.com
On this screen, type in a domain name you want, like “DiscountTabletsSupply.com” and click Search. After it returns a result, select a .com, .net or .org – depending on the availability of a domain you will have to come up with a different name or compromise.
After you’ve selected your domain, go to the next screen which will prompt you to register or log in. Since this is your first time here, register an account….
STEP #2 – Register an account
Fill in all login and password details carefully. Pick an easy to remember password as you may be accessing Namecheap.com a number of times the first month.
STEP #3 – Select Domain Name
Enter the domain name we have included in your website plan folder: For example, “MechanicalMachineArms.com”.
After Namecheap searches for available domains, select the .COM option.
For all the options that follow, choose the cheapest offers they have on sale. These change all the time. Click here to do a Google search for the latest Namecheap discount coupons.
VERY IMPORTANT: Select Auto-Renew on the Domain and the Hosting. We want to keep running our website without losing the domain or hosting, otherwise our site will lose its place in the search engines if it “lapses”.
- You don’t have to get SLL or any other extras for now.
- Unclick subscribe to Namecheap newsletters
STEP #4 – Pay & Check your Email
After you complete your payment process, Namecheap will send you your account credentials neatly in a single email entitled “Your Hosting Welcome Guide….”.
Save these details into a handy place
Or write them down in a notebook that you keep safe by your computer.
STEP #5 – Visit the Control Panel of your site
The email should contain this information:
Follow the Cpanel link in the email you just recieved, and enter the password and username that Namecheap.com has provided you with.
You can change these later if you want.
STEP #6 – Click the Softaculous Icon
Softaculous is a software installer. It will make installing WordPress easy. It is at the bottom of the CPanel (Control Panel).
STEP #7 – Click the WordPress Picture
You can go to this page whenever you need to install some software for your site. It is very easy to use.
STEP #8 – Click the Install link
This will give you a lot of options on where you want to install WordPress. Let’s get into the details…
STEP #9 – Set the following options:
- In Directory: ____________**blank**_______
- Blog Name: _______Your Site Name/Keywords______
- Description: ____The slogan we prepared for you____
STEP #10 – Congratulations!
